Not knowing the difference in the names of two saddle pads can be confusing. That is why we want to make it easy and give you the specs of the wool type OG vs. Kush saddle pads.
When looking for a new saddle pad, knowing what you are buying is important. We want you to get to know our product. Especially the difference in our two wool saddle pad collections. Best Ever Pads takes pride in offering only the highest- quality, top- rated materials into our products. Each pad is 100% handmade in the USA. They are made to order with custom designs, including brands, logos, initials or events. We offer two types of 100% wool pads currently. The OG collection wool pad and the Kush Collection wool pad. About The OG Collection
The OG collection has been the core of the Best Ever Pads company since 2002. This was the original go to pad for years before the introduction of the Kush Collection. The OG pads are top-quality wool pads. This pad is 112 oz. per square yard of needle punched wool. The added benefits of the OG is the needle punches offer a nice breathable ride for your horse. The 112 oz per square yard allows for a lighter, yet durable and firm pad. This allows for your saddle to fit nicely to your horse. Also the pad to shape and conform easily to your horses back. The OG is still a statement piece among many barrel racers and casual riders. Its extra preference is it is a nice light weight option under a well fitted saddle.
Many different disciplines also enjoy adding a fleece liner to the OG pad for rounder back horses. Or custom fit saddles that do not need too much padding in between the saddle and the horse. The added comfort of the fleece line is a great addition for any discipline.
OG Collection – Thickness
The OG Collection pad comes in two different thickness options. 3/4″ thickness as well as a 1″ thickness. It is best to consider a few things when trying to decide what thickness and type of pad to get. First, consider your horses conformation / back shape and how your saddle fits your horse. Having a nice fitted saddle could result in needing a little less padding, making the OG pad a good option. Secondly, depending on your discipline could help factor in the right type of pad as well.

About Kush Collection
The Kush Collection pad is our #1 Best Seller Pad as it is the most preferred pad based on the majority of our riders and disciplines that use our pads. It is made with 136 oz. of high-quality, F-11 grade washed, 100% pressed wool. The softness of the wash and press makes it very favorable to touch while the 136 oz pressed wool makes it favorable among many. The durability and softness adds elevation to the comfort and safety for your horses back. The pressed wool and extra ounces creates a more dense feeling but due to the high quality of the wool it is very flexible and conforms to different shaped backs well.
The other favorite feature that Kush pads provides are the additional color options available: 3/4″ & 1″ options available in several colors: red, turquoise, blue, purple and pink. The light gray and black options are the most popular among all choices.
Similar to the OG pad, the Kush pad can have fleece line added to the bottom of the pad if preferred. Fleece can be added to 1/2″ kush, 3/4″ kush or 1″ kush. It does add a little extra thickness, so keep that in mind when ordering as too much padding can cause a misfit of the saddle and potentially allow it to roll when cinched.
Kush Collection – Thickness
The kush pad has more options when it comes to thickness starting with 1/2″ which is ideal for treeless saddles, custom fitted saddles, or if fleece is being added to make it a little under 3/4″ thickness. Kush is also available in 3/4″ and 1″ which is most favorable as it is a great thickness for majority of riders and horses. Kush is also available in 1.25″ thickness as well which is great for those average built horses that need extra padding or a little wider tree saddle that needs to be picked up a bit more for a better fit.
